The Haiti Project: CRUDEM

CRUDEM (Center for the Rural Development of Milot) is a multifaceted mission dedicated to helping the 225,000 people in and around the village of Milot in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Founded in 1968 by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart of the Montreal Province, CRUDEM was initially started to improve the infrastructure of Milot and in 1986, the Brothers constructed a hospital in the area.

The CRUDEM Foundation recruits volunteer medical teams from the U.S. who travel to Milot at their own expense. These teams help the Haitian medical staff provide both primary and specialty medical care and surgeries.

Among those dedicated volunteers serving in Haiti are Dr. Kelly and his staff. Dr. Kelly usually travels to provide care three times each year, taking members of his staff during one visit. Dr. Kelly and his team’s contribution, though not widely advertised, is relentless and an extraordinary demonstration of compassion and generous contribution of critical skills and precious time.
